Local Immigration Partnerships, Réseaux en immigration francophone, and Place-based Initiatives
This section compiles key documents and contact information for Local & Zonal Immigration Partnerships (LIPs & ZIPs), Réseaux en immigration francophone (RIF), and other immigration-related, place-based initiatives across Canada.
LIPs & ZIPs are municipal or regional coalitions designed to strengthen local capacity to attract newcomers and improve integration outcomes, as indicated by enhanced economic, social, political, and civic participation. They operate through formal agreements that establish broad-based partnership councils charged with developing and implementing strategies to produce more welcoming communities. LIP & ZIP coalitions include immigrant and mainstream service providers; municipalities; federal and provincial agencies; employer associations; health organizations; ethno-cultural and religious groups; school boards; academic institutions; and other partners. As such, they are important focal points for increasing engagement and promoting strategic alignments and coordination among service providers and other institutions. The LIP initiative began operations in Ontario, and has now expanded to a number of other provinces. This site is updated as new LIPs & ZIPs are formed and new information becomes available. The LIP & ZIP initiative is funded by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.
RIF are provincial/territorial or regional Francophone immigration networks designed to attract, welcome integrate and retain immigrants to Francophone minority communities. They provide platforms for consultation and promote partnerships with stakeholders in a variety of sectors, as well as develop and implement action plans for Francophone immigration. The RIF also participate in outreach activities, including those aimed at the international recruitment of Francophone immigrants to Canada and employer engagement. The RIF serve as the cornerstone of the implementation of the Strategic Plan to Foster Immigration to Francophone Minority Communities. The RIF initiative is funded by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.
