Pathways to Prosperity 2025 Virtual Workshop Series
Pathways to Prosperity is pleased to launch its annual Virtual Workshop Series starting in May 2025. The series will take place on the second Tuesday of each month at 1:00 PM ET. These sessions will present results from projects conducted by P2P and its partners, and discussions on current issues of wide interest. They are open to all, but registration is required.
The first workshop will take place on Tuesday May 13 at 1:00-2:15 PM ET and will focus on Understanding and Addressing Changing Attitudes toward Migrants and Immigration in Canada.
Over the past year, public attitudes toward migrants and immigration in Canada have shown a noticeable decline in favourability. This shift raises concerns about continued public support for Canada’s immigration program and our ability to welcome, integrate, and benefit from the contributions that migrants make to Canadian society. This workshop began with a presentation of findings from a national survey conducted in March 2025, exploring Canadians’ current immigration attitudes and immigration priorities. Next, it focused on how international students have recently been demonized in Canada, and the implications of this demonization. The third presentation discussed an initiative that is designed to promote more favourable attitudes toward migrants and recognize their many contributions to the community in which they settle.

This year, Pathways to Prosperity’s Virtual Workshop Series will include special two-hour workshops that will profile several promising practices targeting similar areas of high need. A discussant will also be present to highlight key learnings across practices.
The first of these special workshops will take place on Tuesday June 10 at 1:00 – 3:00 PM ET, and will focus on Supporting the Mental Health of Newcomers.
In recent years, the mental health of newcomers has become an increasingly important focus, highlighting the need for responsive and accessible supports across the country. In this context, this workshop will highlight four promising practices that have been developed to address the mental health needs of different groups of newcomers – immigrant families, 2SLGBTQIA+ immigrants, and immigrant children and youth. The speakers will discuss the key features of their practices that make them innovative and effective, and the discussant will then present key themes and unique features of the practices, pulling out important lessons for others to use in developing or improving their own practices.
