Chair: Alison Dudley, Partner Liaison & Coordinator, North Shore Immigrant Inclusion Partnership

This panel will explore several aspects related to improving LIP and RIF operations. Among the key issues that affect any organization’s effectiveness are sustainability and innovation. With this in mind, we will look at the findings of the IRCC evaluation of RIFs and LIPs and their implications for optimizing the immigration partnerships. We will also explore the “Collective Impact” approach to operations and its applications to RIF and LIP partnerships.

Session 2 – Promotion of Welcoming Communities

Chairs: Roberto Montiel, Coordinator, Halifax Local Immigration Partnership, and Karen Laing, Manager, Governance and Resource Development, Mission Community Services Society

This session will explore how stakeholders, namely, employers, the public and other RIFs and LIPs, become crucial figures in the creation of welcoming communities. We will focus on three initiatives. The Atlantic Immigration Pilot is an innovative program designed as a collaboration between IRCC and the Atlantic Provinces to address labour gaps in this region. The success of this program depends on the employers’ active participation in the settlement and integration process of their employees. The Welcome Campaign of the London & Middlesex Local Immigration Partnership is currently underway to engage the community in undertaking and recording acts of welcome that will make newcomers feel more at home and help combat racism and discrimination. The National Francophone Immigration Week is an initiative to promote, demonstrate, and celebrate the contributions of French-speaking newcomers, coordinated by the Fédération des francophones et acadienne du Canada and the Réseaux en immigration francophone across the country. The session will include table discussions where scenarios, with challenges currently faced by the speakers, will be tackled and solutions strategized.

Session 3 – Strengthening Relationships with Other Organizations

Immigration covers a large and complex sector. The expertise and knowledge that different organizations can bring to the work of LIPs and RIFs across Canada is very important. This workshop will focus on the benefit of building and strengthening relationships between non-settlement organizations and RIFs and LIPs. Speakers will provide context for the workshop and inspire conversation among workshop participants by sharing strategies they have implemented in their communities and what impacts were realized in the collaboration between non-settlement organizations and LIPs and RIFs.

What measurements are important to direct the work of new LIPs and RIFs? Which are key to evaluating the
community impact of established partnerships? How can RIFs and LIPs from across the country share population and performance measurements despite differences in objectives, community size, and data availability? This session will explore promising answers to these questions with an emphasis on Results Based Accountability and Collective Impact approaches to measuring impact. Focused small group discussions will follow the presentations.
