MAIN THEME:
Building Inclusive Communities for Newcomers & Host Societies
The conference will feature keynote and plenary speeches from experts in the field of immigration, settlement and integration policy making, in addition to workshops and presentation from researchers, front-line settlement and integration workers and leaders in the field.
These issues will be examined along the following sub-themes:
1. Encouraging active integration of newcomers and host communities as a way of discouraging segregation and newcomer cluster communities.
2. “Cross-Cultural Inclusiveness”: Promoting intercultural understanding between Aboriginal communities and newcomer communities.
3. Research, practice and policy responses to the needs of refugees and immigrants from conflict zones and traumatic situations and policy and practice responses to their mental health issues conflict resolution of Newcomers with Host Societies.
4. Acculturation struggles and experiences of home in new societies of:
• children and youth
• women
• elderly people
• persons with disabilities
5. “Deskilling/devaluation” of professional credentials of newcomers: Research and policy responses to obstacles in the labour market integration of new immigrants.
6. Combating racism and prejudice: Intercultural understanding and conflict resolution
7. Integration as a bi-directional process: Responsibilities of host societies for the settlement and adaptation needs of new immigrants in host societies.

 

SUBMISSION OF ABSTRACTS
If you are interested in presenting a paper, workshop, panel discussion or poster presentation at this conference, please submit:
1. a maximum 250 word abstract of your paper, workshop or panel proposal.
2. a biographic description of yourself and other authors (no more than 10 lines) in Word format.
